Jonas Raess lief heute Abend (1. August) beim Belfast International (IRL) 13:37.98 über 5000m und verbesserte seine Persönliche Bestzeit vom letzten Jahr um etwas mehr als eine Sekunde. Direkt aus dem Höhentrainingslager im Engadin angereist profitierte er von optimalen äusseren Bedingungen. Jonas Raess lief von Beginn an direkt hinter dem Pacemaker, welcher das Rennen bis 3000m in 8:17 anführte. Danach übernahm Raess das Tempodiktat und steigerte die Pace kontinuirlich. Trotz sehr schnellen letzten 800m (2:01.5) wurde er 500m vor dem Zielt überspurtet und musste sich ganz knapp geschlagen geben. Der Sieg an der Universiade und diese PB bei einem nicht optimalen Rennverlauf lassen auf weitere gute Ergebnisse hoffen.
Mit dieser Zeit lief Jonas in die TopTen der ewigen Schweizer Bestenliste.
