In der zweiten Tour de France Woche war für mich, nicht wie sonst immer ein Fernsehmarathon, sondern eine Woche voller OL-Wettkämpfe auf dem Programm. Ich habe mich an den Qualifikationsläufen, die im April sowie im Mai stattgefunden haben, für die Studentenweltmeisterschaften im Orientierungslauf (WUOC) qualifizieren können. Da ich kein Mitglied des Nationalkaders bin und meine letzten Saisons nicht wirklich erfolgreich verliefen, war es für mich eine sehr angenehme Überraschung, mitreisen zu dürfen.
OL kurz und knackig
Mit Karte und einen Kompass muss man möglichst schnell die eingezeichneten Posten in der richtigen Reihenfolge anlaufen.
Distanzen
Distanzen im OL sind nicht so klar definiert wie auf der Bahn. Die Distanzangabe entspricht der Luftlinie. Die gelaufene Distanz hängt daher stark von der Route ab, die ein Läufer wählt. Aus diesem Grund kategorisiert man die verschiedenen OL-Disziplinen nach Siegerzeiten:
Sprint ≈ 15 min, Mittel ≈ 35 min, Langdistanz ≈ 90 min
Mein erster Wettkampf an der WUOC war die Mitteldistanz. Da auch Finnland nicht von der Klimaerwärmung verschont bleibt, durfte ich um 10 Uhr schon bei 30°C in den Wald gehen. Ich zog nicht den besten Tag ein und hatte das Gelände vor allem technisch nicht so unter Kontrolle, wie ich mir das gewünscht hätte und landete auf dem 36. Platz.

Am zweiten Wettkampftag stand bei mir der Sprint auf dem Programm. Ich erhoffte mir in dieser Disziplin einiges mehr. Mit dem LCR-Beitritt im letzten Jahr und einer nicht zu vernachlässigende Anzahl Trainings auf dem Wisacher, konnte ich im Sprint grosse Fortschritte machen. Nach einer technisch nahezu perfekten Leistung, schaute am Ende der für mich gute 7. Rang heraus.

Nach einem Ruhetag stand noch die Staffel auf dem Programm. Diese besteht aus drei Läufer, die jeweils etwa 30 min unterwegs sind. Ich durfte im zweiten Team der Schweiz starten. Persönlich konnte ich mich mit einer soliden Leistung rehabilitieren für meine misslungene Mitteldistanz. Da nur jeweils das beste Team pro Nation klassiert wird, wussten wir von Anfang an, dass es dreimal einen sehr guten Tag braucht. Am Schluss rangierten wir, auf dem eher unter den Erwartungen liegenden, 12. Rang.
